"Ouentironk" it was known as by the Huron natives, Louis Armand, Baron de Lahontan called it
"Lake Toronto" and Iroquoian term meaning gateway or pass, French traders referred to it as
"Lac aux Claies", place where trees stand in the water, but John Graves Simcoe renamed it Lake Simcoe in
1793.
Lake Simcoe is approximately 30 kms. long and 25 kms. wide and is part of the Trent-Severn waterway which connects
Lake Ontario (at Trenton) to Georgian Bay at (Port Severn) thru a system of locks, canals, lakes and rivers. |
